ConocoPhillips Science Experience

The ConocoPhillips Science Experience is a fun 3 or 4 days of science activities for Year 9 and 10 students in 2019 program year. Each program is designed to provide students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists who love their work.

The program takes place in over 35 universities and tertiary institutions, within many different laboratories and lecture theatres. Participants perform experiments in the laboratories, meet and hear senior lecturers in the lecture theatres, attend site visits and walk around and experience what it is like to be on the campus of a university or tertiary institution. More than 68,000 students have taken this rare opportunity.

Girls Programming Network

The Girls’ Programming Network is a group of women and girls into computer science, programming and information technology. They run workshops once per school term for high school girls.
GPN teach you how to make an awesome programming project each time. We also make friends, eat pizza, and do other fun activities.
There will be heaps of tutors at GPN to teach you and help you learn at a pace that’s right for you. Our tutors are women and girls who love IT. Some tutors are uni students studying IT or other STEM areas. Others are software engineers from cool companies like Google, Atlassian, Data61 and more.

These Info Sessions are held after ATARs are released and prior to the close of change of preferences for consideration in December Round 2 so it’s perfect timing to get the advice you need to finalise your UAC application.
Knowing your ATAR means your choices may have changed. There are a variety of entry schemes and adjustment factors available to you. Talk to our admissions team who can help you understand your adjusted ATAR and your options.

Charles Allan Seymour Hawker Memorial Scholarship
Value: Up to $60,000
Open/Closing Dates: December 9, 2019 – January 8, 2020
The C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship is one of the most generous privately funded scholarships available to undergraduate and post-graduate students in Australia.
The C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship is available to any Australian student undertaking a three or four year course of study approved by the Trustees. Undergraduate students who have commenced their studies are also eligible to apply for the scholarship. Successful applicants can choose to study at one of the nominated Australian universities or colleges. In some instances the C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship is also offered to postgraduate students who can undertake a one year course of study at the University of Cambridge in the UK. Successful applicants are required to study at one of the following institutions:
• Australian National University – ACT
• Flinders University of South Australia – SA
• University of Adelaide (including Roseworthy Campus) – SA
• Roseworthy Residential College
• University of New England – NSW
• University of South Australia – SA
• Marcus Oldham College – VIC
• University of Cambridge – UK

Applications are open for the UN Youth Aotearoa Leadership Tour
The Aotearoa Leadership Tour is an opportunity like no other to learn about indigenous rights and culture through a two-week tour of New Zealand.
The Aotearoa Leadership Tour brings together 16 young Australians in Years 10 – 12 to explore indigenous rights, culture and reconciliation during the June/July 2020 school holidays.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore Australia’s relationship with its first peoples through an intercultural tour of New Zealand. The Tour focuses on the rich history and tradition of the Maori people, and the methods used to preserve this culture.
You’ll spend two weeks travelling through Wellington, Auckland, Waitangi, Rotorua and Sydney to meet and work with local communities, grassroots organisations, government representatives and NGOs at the forefront of the fight for indigenous rights.

Honeywell Engineering Summer School (HESS) University of Sydney
9–13 December 2019
Year: 11 (entering year 12 in 2020)
Honeywell Engineering Summer School (HESS) aims to give NSW and ACT high school students a better understanding of what engineering is and how it works in everyday life. Successful applicants will spend 5 days living at International House (I.H.) at the University of Sydney. Over the week, students will attend lectures and demonstrations at five prestigious NSW universities. They will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with professional engineers employed by government, private companies, researchers and academics in a wide range of engineering disciplines.

• Dive deeper with Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Animate, Blender and experiment with green screen animation.
• Explore 3D imaging with industry standard animation software Maya.
• Take home a copy of your work at the end of the workshop.

AFTRS | The Real Filmmaking Workshop

The five-day Real Filmmaking Workshop is the number one filmmaking workshop for young people in Australia. It is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a group of creative young people for a ‘real filmmaking experience’. You’ll work together to take a script to screen, learn how to direct actors and experience the technical elements of filmmaking including camera, lighting, sound and editing skills – all in one week.
Your group’s vision will be realised with a screening of your short film in the AFTRS theatre for parents and friends. You’ll also receive a copy of your film for future viewing.
• Explore all areas of filmmaking including scriptwriting, art direction and set design, cinematography, lighting, sound effects, directing, editing and producing.
• You will work with experienced industry tutors, professional actors and AFTRS crew.
• Work in AFTRS’ state-of-the-art film studios using professional equipment.

Working with an experienced screen writer, learn the art of writing a short film – from initial conception through to the development of your story. This is an intensive and rewarding course if you’re interested in creative writing, writing for the screen or if you are developing screen content as part of your HSC studies.

• Learn how to lay out your screenplay according to industry standards using Celtx (free screenwriting software).

AFTRS | Video Editing with Premiere Pro Workshop

Are you interested in learning how to edit your own videos? This hands-on practical course will teach you the basics of editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, part of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. It is not recommended if you already have a strong familiarity with Premiere Pro.
• Learn how to import different files, basic editing skills, and how export your video to a number of formats including web.
• Learn how to add effects, transitions, text and audio.
• Work with existing footage to explore the creative art of editing.
