Music Matters

House Music - Beatles!
Get ready for this Friday as the Houses share their Beatles themed performances on the stage in the Great Hall! Our adjudicators for this year are Ms Jacqui Dark and Ms Tanya Christensen. The Rock ensembles “Small Seas” and “Second Nature” will also be performing while the final judging takes place. Looking forward to hearing the array of performances from each House.

International House Guests and the World Choral Festival
The Music Department is thrilled that SCEGGS’ Choirs are playing an important part in the Gondwana World Choral Festival in the third week of the school holidays. Only three Australian school choirs were invited to perform so we are feeling very fortunate to be chosen. The festival is the greatest gathering of international choirs in Australia this century and promises to be a life changing experience for our SCEGGS choristers. Our choristers, and some of our staff, have generously opened their homes for a week to billet the world famous Inner Mongolian Youth Choir. If you are interested in supporting our SCEGGS choristers in their performances then please click on the links below to secure tickets:

Wednesday July 17: 2.30pm: Harbour City 2 Concert featuring SCEGGS Darlinghurst and Inner Mongolian Youth Choir in Music Workshop Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Tickets to this concert can be purchased at: Wednesday Concert.

Sunday July 21: 3.00 – 5.00pm: Sounds of the World Closing Gala Concert at Sydney Opera House. Please note SCEGGS are not presenting their own bracket of songs in this concert but are singing in the final two massed items with the combined international choirs. This concert is selling out fast and features all of the international choirs so will be a once in a lifetime chance to hear some of the best choirs in the treble choir world all in one place. Primary Piano Concert
Well done to the Piano students who performed in the concert last Friday afternoon in the Great Hall. It was wonderful to see the array of talented pianists who for some, was the first time they had played on a Steinway Grand! Thank you to Heidi Jones for her preparation and organisation of the concert.

Strings Studio Concert
Congratulations to the students who performed in the Strings Concert in the Primary Music Room. The concerts were held over three afternoons from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 June. It was a positive learning experience for the string students, playing with the support of their family and friends. Thank you to Anne Sweeney for her organisation of the afternoon concerts. Thank you also to the team of String studio teachers and Stephanie Holmes who assisted with the accompaniment.
