The SCEGGS community has a long history of philanthropic support that has brought – and continues to bring – enormous benefits to our girls, past, present and future.
In the 1890s, the School was established with donations from men and women interested in furthering the opportunities for higher education for girls. Just 20 years later, a group of old girls came together and helped to fund the first scholarship, launched by Miss Badham. The philanthropic support of our community continues this tradition today, with 8% of enrolments in our High School receiving some level of fee relief.
In the mid-1970s the School faced such a significant financial crisis that it almost closed for good. The substantial fundraising efforts of our community at the time, driven by the ‘Saving SCEGGS’ appeal, raised $1.5M over several weeks and enabled our school to remain open and continue to flourish and grow.
