Director of Bands (K-12)

SCEGGS is seeking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic music educator to the full time, permanent position of Director of Bands, commencing in Term 1, 2020.

Working collaboratively with the Head of Music, the Director of Bands is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of a dynamic and diverse K-12 band program across the school. They will be required to direct, manage and coordinate these ensembles, including selecting repertoire and organising performance opportunities. The successful applicant will also be required to teach some secondary music curriculum classes and/or individual instrumental lessons as well as conduct some ensembles, special project orchestras and contribute to the broader Co-curricular Music Program of the school.

The successful applicant will have a deep love of music and the ability to foster this in young people. They will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the pedagogical principles of music education and more specifically, brass, woodwind and percussion playing and teaching. As an outstanding musician and music educator, they will also have the ability to critically reflect on their own professional practice as well as be able to inspire, engage and encourage girls of all ages and ability levels. The successful applicant will also have the ability to work as part of a large and vibrant Music department, and will have excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills.
