Assessment Tasks for Year 11 and Year 12 Courses
Many Year 11 and Year 12 syllabus outcomes cannot be assessed in formal examinations. Additionally, only one formal examination is permitted per year for each course under the assessment guidelines from NESA. Therefore, SCEGGS includes a full range of assessment tasks throughout the courses to ensure that our girls:
- Are skilled communicators and flexible thinkers
- Can demonstrate their knowledge and skills in many different forums
- Value the diversity of ideas and thought within the community
This may be conducted through research, a practical task, fieldwork, an oral presentation or a viva voce (discussion). These tasks may take place in an assessment block or be spread throughout the term.
Formal examinations also form an integral part of the SCEGGS assessment program. An examination block will be held for Year 11 in September at the conclusion of the Preliminary course. The Trial Higher School Certificate Examinations are block of examinations held for all HSC Courses in August of the HSC year.

How the Assessment Program Works
Each assessment focuses on the specific outcomes of the syllabuses. Tasks reflect the outcomes being evaluated. Each student is given an assessment booklet detailing guidelines and general information for each subject. They also receive schedules and details in writing of each assessment task for every subject and are made fully aware of the assessment program, specific criteria and marking guidelines before undertaking the tasks.
